Last month Francis attended the World Congress on Thyroid Cancer in Boston, USA. It was a chance to catch up with colleagues from Canada and America, including Dr Jeremy Freeman from Toronto, Canada who was on the organising committee. Francis did a fellowship with Dr Freeman from 2001 to 2003.
There were great talks on every aspect on thyroid cancer. Advanced technology was evident including molecular testing, genetic testing, monitoring of both the recurrent laryngeal nerve and the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve, auto fluorescence of parathyroid glands, radiofrequency ablation, targeted agents and parathyroid hormone medication.
In addition to state of the art thyroid surgery, Francis is pleased to offer molecular testing and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) here in New Zealand.
